
Professor Nigele Poole, OBE
Nigel is Chairman of the "International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics" (ICRISAT). This institute has the mission of improving the agriculture and food supply of the 600+m who live on $2 a day or less in the dry tropics.
ICRISAT is headquartered in India and has 6 research stations in Africa; it is funded by the World Bank, various Governments and Charities. Nigel also chairs the International Liasion Group of the "Society of Biology", and is a member of the advisory board of "Oxford Capital Partners". He was previously founder of "Sekona Partnerships" and Group Manager of External and Regualtory Affairs of Zeneca Plant Science.
In 1999 Nigel was awarded an OBE for his contribution to the biotechnology industry and holds honorary Professorships at the University of Aberdeen and John Moore's University, Liverpool. In 1996 he was given the UK chemical industry award for the “most outstanding contribution to advancing the public understanding of science”.
