Key People... Teresa Belcher

Teresa Belcher

Teresa is the Managing Director of Science Communications Ltd. She has a first degree with honours in Biological and Environmental Sciences, a postgraduate diploma in resource and environmental management, and a Masters in Science Communication. She also holds a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).

Teresa initially worked as a consultant in waste management, contaminated sites, bioremediation, field survey and environmental impact studies. During this time, she worked with BP Refinery (Kwinana), Environmental Management Services Pty Ltd, Sinclair Knight Merz, Department of Industry, Science and Resources (Australia), Environment Australia, and CSIRO.

In 1997, Teresa moved into the field of science communications completing an MSc at the Australian National University. Teresa has over 12 years experience in promoting scientific ideas and research to scientists, industry, government and the public in Australia, Switzerland, UK and throughout Europe. Her experience spans event management (Australian Science Festival), promotion of science and exhibition design (Geoscience Australia), science journalism (at the Australian National University 'Reporter' newspaper), working as a tour guide (the National Dinosaur Museum, Australia) and in corporate communications (as editor, website manager and VIP visit coordinator for Leica Geosystems, Switzerland and UK).

For the past five years, Teresa has led the Communications Unit for Med-Vet-Net, an EC Network of Excellence project comprising 15 institutes and 300 scientists across Europe collaborating in the fields of infectious diseases and food safety.
